The Next Chapter
of Wesbter
Webster Elementary School, commissioned in 1920, served as Pontiac’s premiere elementary school until 2007 and stood as more than just a school—it was a community hub for gatherings, roller skating, and a proud symbol of the city’s history. After years of neglect and disrepair that sparked debate over demolition, a group of visionaries rallied to save it, leading to its transformation into the Webster Community Center.
Now undergoing renovations, the building is set to reopen in February 2026 as a multi-tenant space for social services, youth recreation, and neighborhood programs. An accompanying exhibit will honor its rich past, highlight the quirks of restoration, showcase artwork left behind, and celebrate the start of its next century of community impact.
